4 Premier League Stars Paid Handsomely For Doing Nothing

Premier League footballers are paid mouth-watering amount of money to do their jobs – even people with no interest in the sport are aware of that.

This is perhaps why many players look forward to play in England as it is only natural to read about the six-figure earnings footballers take home on a weekly basis.

However, in truth, some of these highly-paid superstars aren’t even starting games – sitting on the bench, while some are yet to taste action this season but still smile to the bank every week.

Below are Premier League players on massive wages and are paid for doing nothing.

1. Yaya Toure (£225000 per week/ N88million+)

When your agent comes out and says your manager called his new club a ‘s*** team’, it’s doubtful you’ll be seeing the first-team anytime soon. That has been Yaya Toure’s story this season.

His agent Dimitri Seluk is currently at war with Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola, sadly Toure is the one on the receiving end as he has only featured once under Guardiola.

But at 33 years, he should be pretty much happy getting a whopping £225000 a week for doing nothing much.

2. Bastian Schweinsteiger (£180,000 per week/ N70million+)

Manchester United are so desperate to get Bastian Schweinsteiger off their books that they are ready to offer the German a £10 million pay off in January, according to The Sun.

Bastian Schweinsteiger

The 32-year-old has no part in Jose Mourinho’s plans at Old Trafford and has spent much of the campaign with the reserve side, even though he was recently welcomed to train with the first team.

Schweinsteiger weekly wage of £180,000-per-week is more than enough for a player at the age of 32-years to careless about making his way back into the first team.

He still has more than 18 months to run on his deal with Mourinho’s men, and could cost them £18m if he remains for the duration of his contract.

3. John Mikel Obi ($75000-per-week/ N23million+)

Chelsea are poised to offload Mikel John Obi after a decade at the club.

Mikel’s contract expires in the summer and sources at the club say Chelsea will not be giving him a new one.

Mikel has not been in a match-day squad this term. He was able to work under Antonio Conte for only a week during pre-season because he was with Nigeria at the Rio Olympics.

Since returning in late August, Mikel has fallen behind Nemanja Matic, N’Golo Kante, Nathaniel Chalobah and Ruben Loftus-Cheek in the pecking order and is not a part of Conte’s plans.

But for a player receiving a weekly wage of £75000 per week, Mikel will look to ensure he stay put at Chelsea for another season even at the expense of less playing times.

4. Mahmoud Sakho ($75000-per-week/ N23million+)

Sakho, 26, turned down loan moves to Stoke City and Sunderland during the transfer window, despite being informed he would find playing time limited this season at Liverpool.

The Liverpool outcast was sent home by Jurgen Klopp from the club’s pre-season tour of the United States as the German wanted him to go out on loan to get his career back on track.

However, Sakho turned down loan offers to stay put at Liverpool, his reason may just be that his £75000 per week salary is too good to lose.
